With skateboarding’s spotlight traditionally focused on the two coasts, it’s usually an uphill battle for skaters from the Midwest to get any recognition. It’s practically impossible, however, to ignore skaters with the skill of Sean Malto, no matter where they come from.
Kansas born and not afraid to rep it (he can constantly be seen wearing his blue Kansas t-shirt), backed by some of the heaviest hitters in the business and possessing one of the best overcrooks in the game, it’s clear to see why he’s a part of the etnies family. Sean looks at ease with his skating whether powering through a five-trick line or stomping a tre flip off a roof and over a driveway. Most importantly of all, even with all of the accolades and fans, Sean has kept a level head and taken it all in stride. When he's not rolling around, you can probably find Sean sipping on a Chai tea or hanging out with his Kansas homies.
First coming into the limelight with his part in the Kansas City independent video Through Being Nice and with what some consider his introduction to the pro ranks with his Transworld And Now part, it’s clear his Crailtap brethren Marc Johnson was right when he said we’ve entered the Malto Age.
Sean’s backed up his video parts with loads of photos and double-page ads, so when he joined the professional ranks, there was no question in anyone’s mind if he would be able to live up to the expectations from his previous coverage. While many young skaters can be overwhelmed having so much thrown at them, Sean is in it for the long haul and will no doubt impress everyone for a years to come.
With the Chocolate video in the works, Sean is probably out right now churning away at a new banger of a part. No matter where you're from, you’d be wise to watch and be amazed when it drops.
