Ryan Sheckler for the Marana
From bespectacled nollie hardflips to really bruised backs to Enjoi, Cairo Foster has a skate career that spans three decades, and there’s no end in sight. Quantifying or qualifying his impact on the skateboard world is difficult because Cairo has been killing it softly for so long; when the dust settles, nobody is going to have to shout about his obvious greatness.
He introduced a generation of skaters to the band, Built to Spill, in Transworld’s 1999 video The Reason, and 13 years later that video part would stand up to all the scrutiny any brave skate critic could dole out today. Cairo followed that part up with plenty of other works that could legitimately be called ahead of their time; simply put, Cairo is timeless.
