MOTO/SURF
Tarah Gieger is one of the most recognized names in women’s motocross. However, motocross is just one of her passions as she excels in surfing as well. In fact, if she wasn't a pro motocross racer, she claims she'd be a professional surfer. This may have something to do with her parents owning one of the best surf shops in Puerto Rico, but we are just guessing. Another one of Tarah's claims is that she began riding motocross because her parents gave her a bike instead of the go-cart she had requested.
Over the years, Tarah has proven she's not afraid to go hard and give it her all. She's had several broken bones to prove it including wrists, collarbone, ribs, pelvis and vertebrae. Her 2005 season was marred with injuries, but the setbacks haven't deterred Tarah as she bounced back to take 3rd Place in AMA/WMA overall standings in 2006 and 2nd Place overall in 2007. Decorated with AMA/WMA medals, Tarah is no stranger to the podium. Beyond the WMA races, Tarah has taken 1st Place at the famous AMA Loretta Lynn’s Championship for 2006 and 2007 and as well was the first female in history to compete in the Motocross of Nations last year, representing team Puerto Rico. Making history again, Tarah’s most recent and highest achievement was taking the first Summer X Games Gold for Women’s Motocross Racing in 2008.
In her free time, Tarah enjoys watching movies, including surf and skate movies and comedies. She doesn't like horror movies or lizards because they both scare her. Kind of ironic for a girl who has nailed a backflip on a bike! Her advice for girls who want to follow in her footsteps is don't be too scared to ride with the boys.
