etnies Surf chief Joey DaRoza just got back from the Cold Water Classic and was able to spend some quality time with the team. See what's up with the boys in his Cold Water Recap:
I left Tuesday to head up the coast with plans of getting with Chris Malloy and spending a little time with him on his property before heading to Santa Cruz. I met up with Chris on Wednesday morning and was blown away by his setup. Chris lives on the Hollister Ranch property, about 20 minutes north of Santa Barbara. This is a 15,000 acre property that Chris told me he has only really seen about 2/3’s of in the three years he's lived there. I was able to ride along with him around the property and film as we went along. Chris discussed his latest project, 180 South, as well as talk about what it’s like living on such an amazing piece of property. Stay tuned for pics and vid coming real soon.
After leaving Chris Wednesday afternoon I was glad to hear the Cold Water Classic had been on hold waiting for the swell to fill in and was most likely to resume on Friday. Desi and I worked to get a team dinner organized for Thursday night and it went really well. I got to spend some time with Brett Simpson, Eric Geiselman (just hours after his shark encounter), Anthony Tashnick and of course Bill Simpson who goes just about everywhere Brett does. It was nice to get some of the guys together and feel the camaraderie.
Friday the contest resumed and the swell definitely filled in. Eric was also a local celebrity by then with word of the attack spreading like wild fire and his picture on the front page of the Santa Cruz newspaper.

By late Saturday, Brett was still in the running and the waves ranged from 10 – 15 foot. He was knocked out in the round of 16 but with yet another strong finish, he has gotten that much closer to clinching his spot on the WQS next year.

That was a close one! Eric Geiselman takes us through footage of his recent shark encounter that resulted in a broken board and one shaken surfer.
Glad you're alright, Eric... stay safe out there.
