SSPU & Against Me! at The Greek

Aug 19 2010 / Thursday

Silversun Pickups came home! They played a hometown show at The Greek and our own Against Me! were there to welcome them with an opening set that readied the crowd for an intimate night with their local hearoes.

Henry Clay People started things off and Against Me! kept the good times rolling in true ! fashion. In no time, the crowd was on its feet and horns were in the air. Once the band was sufficiently damp and each hair was perfectly mussed into rock oblivion, they said goodnight. KROQ's always charming Kat Corbett took it from there with a short and sweet intro for the band everyone was there to see.

Silhouettes of Silversun Pickups taking the stage were enough to set the fans on fire. Throughout the show, Brian Aubert wasn't the least bit shy about his appreciation for all the SSPU love and the crowd just kept on giving. The gratitude and disbelief was endearing, even as he called out the kids in the trees sneaking a peek from outside the open air walls... "I was that guy," he said.

The set list included all the hits, fan faves from Swoon as well as Pikul, closing it out with Lazy Eye. Relentless cheers and lighters called for an encore and the band inevitably obliged with Substitution and Common Reactor... after which, everyone seemed to glow and ya couldn't help but smile. It was all in all, a beautiful night under the stars with local darlings so deserving of the success that brought them home to hills of LA.
