What: etnies Heshin for Haiti Tour
When: March 6th – 11th
Where: Skatepark of Tampa, MIA Skatepark, Westside Skateshop
Why: Hang out with the etnies team, raise money and awareness for Haiti relief, and just have fun!
More than 600 kids came out over the duration of the tour. In total, we raised over $800 dollars for the Red Cross Haiti relief fund.
Mikey Taylor, Sean Malto, Devine Calloway, Davis Torgerson and Tyler Bledsoe all flew out to Florida to kick off the tour at SPoT on March 6th. Skatepark of Tampa was host to the first stop of the Heshin for Haiti tour. As part of the yearly Tampa Takeover, etnies pays for the first 200 kids to enter the park, provides a free BBQ for the kids, a product toss and just generally stokes out the Tampa locals. As usual, good times were had by all and the event was a success with a great cause in mind.
On Sunday, March 7th, we headed to MIA Skatepark in Doral Park, FL and arrived to a park full of kids eagerly anticipating the arrival of the etnies team. After getting set up and spending a few hours ripping the MIA Skatepark, the team freely hung out and obliged the gathering crowd of skaters, shop lurkers and random parents looking for an autograph. This park was super fun and I suggest you pack your board if you’re heading to Miami anytime soon.
The team hung out in Miami for a few days before making their way back up to Westside Skateshop, on March 10th, in Tarpon Springs, FL for the final stop of this mini-blitzkrieg. With a weekday appearance the crowd was a little slimmer than the previous two stops but the enthusiasm and support from John Montessi and his loyal shop following was as strong as anywhere. Sean Malto arrived early and held it down by playing S.K.A.T.E. with the locals. While waiting for the rest of the team to arrive, we rolled some Skate Or Dice in the parking lot and all the proceeds benefited the relief fund.
