Now in its fifth year, the Big Push is a well-established and highly anticipated part of the UK skateboard calendar. Created by Percy Dean of Document magazine, the Big Push aims to pit the top skateboard teams in the country against one another on a whistle-stop tour of the hottest and most iconic skateboard destinations that the UK has to offer.
This year, the Big Push sees the reins being taken by the UK's largest skateboard publication Sidewalk, and aims to be bigger and better than ever before. With teams from Vans, Nike SB, DC, Adidas, Etnies and Team Shiner, and pre-assigned area specific tasks for each team, 2009 should see the most varied and explosive Big Push yet.
Each team is tasked with a variety of missions specific to their assigned area, (London/South East, Bristol/South West, Yorkshire/Teesside, Manchester/North West, the Midlands and Scotland) ranging from performing never been done tricks at famous skate spots, right through to ticking off an obscure trick-list - 2009 should see the most varied and explosive Big Push edits ever.
The end result will be a 60-minute DVD featuring all six team's finished edits, which will be cover mounted on the November issue of Sidewalk magazine (on-sale 12th November). Additionally each team will have daily blogs here on Mpora updating the skate nation on their progress as the 5-day extravaganza unfolds.
The winning team will be determined through a combination of points garnered for completion of tasks and online voting MPORA. The winning team will get the cover of Sidewalk, with features included in the same magazine, detailing the story behind the cover-mounted edits. The UK etnies team will enter the Big Push with: Joe Gavin, Conhuir Lynn, David Davies, Sam Bosworth, Caradog Emmanuel and Barney Page plus special guest skater – UK éS rider Joe Lysnkey.
