Update from Nina Buitrago:
Heyoo!!! Just got back from a road trip with DK Bicycles from Denmark to Cologne, Germany for the BMX WORLDS comp. The trip was great. Our van was packed with bikes, four dudes, (two other fellow etnies riders, Mad Dog and Brian Kachinsky) and myself. The trip started in Copenhagen, DK, where we went camping, rode around and found ourselves in a place called Christiania. Then we took a bridge over to Malmo, Sweden for a day to ride some badass concrete bowls. We then took a ferry to Germany and made our way over to Hamburg, where the UNITY guys showed us around town and took us to some killer spots. We found these really sweet slanted walls, and after a few attempts and some phantom grinds at the top of one I went back to nail it, and my back peg missed, and I looped out and my shoulder came out :(
Thank you Catfish for being brave enough to help me get it back in place. Ugh!! So this was a few days before we even got to Cologne. I was totally bummin' that my shoulder would be too loose to ride at the WORLDS in cologne.
Next day we headed over to Amsterdam, took a boat tour, ran into some BMX legends who were also passing through on their way to the WORLDS... small world? Ha! From there made our way to Rotterdam, where there is so much good street, I definitely gotta make it back there sometime when I'm healthy! Cologne is only two and a half hours from there so we kept on truckin' to our final destination where we met up with our other fellow DK and etnies team riders Anthony Watkinson (UK) and Jamie Bestwick!
We get there and I come to find out there is 27 girls registered for the Women's class!!!! A new record?? I've been trying to come to this comp for years, how awesome is it that this year is the largest turnout?! I iced my shoulder all weekend long with the rain pushing all the events back, all of the gals were getting real antsy to ride together but the rain just wouldn't let up. I got my shoulder taped, the sun came out for a few minutes, we almost got started, and then ANOTHER rain storm came in. :( They canceled the Women's class and Pro street due to inclement weather. BUMMER!!!!!!!!! We made the best of it and I met some awesome girls from all over the world, a lot of young guns that are gonna be blowin' up the scene real soon! I made it back and am working on my shoulder, and hope I can make it our for the BMX worlds next year! And hopefully we can double the number of gals next year! HollA! Keep shreddin! See you for girls day at X Games 15 on Thursday July 31st, where I'll be shreddin' some BMX clinics!!!
