After 17 races in 15 cities, the 2009 AMA Supercross Championship concluded in Las Vegas, Nev. last night. Sam Boyd Stadium was sold out with 39,506 in attendance, and the racing action was broadcast live on SPEED. In an unusual twist, Joe Gibbs Racing had live coverage of both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and supercross races overlapping on two different networks at the same time. On his 24th birthday, Kyle Busch drove his Combos Toyota Camry to victory at the Crown Royal 400 in Richmond, Va. live on Fox.
In Las Vegas, Josh Grant and Nathan Ramsey easily qualified for the main event from their heat races. In the main, Grant had difficulty at the start and began the event in 18th, Ramsey was 13th. Grant moved through the pack quickly, and by lap four was in ninth, with Ramsey 11th. The JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha teammates stayed with two
positions of one another for nearly the entire 20 laps with Grant finishing seventh, and Ramsey ninth. Grant’s finish was enough to secure fourth overall in series points and place him as the top-ranked rookie in the 2009 AMA Supercross Championship Series.
