Sally in 2nd!
by: Alex | Monday, March 31, 2008
etnies Australia surfer Sally Fitzgibbons just keeps racking up the points. She came in a close 2nd at the weekend's Motorola Pro Jr. in Newcastle, Australia.
It was a tight final heat between the current world and Australian junior champion and her frequent opponent Laura Enever. In the last minutes of the competition, Enever just barely defeated Fitzgibbons with a final score of 16.65 to 13.20. The competitors just faced off a few weeks ago in a WQS event at the Arrive Alive Central Coast Pro, where Sally took home the first place championship with Enever in second.
In yet another impressive display of talent, eighteen-year-old Fitzgibbons scored the only perfect 10 wave in the third round at the event. The second place standing in Newcastle adds to her already impressive list of wins in the 2008 Australian surfing season.
Keep it comin' Sally!

Congratulations to etnies Dutch BMX rider Mark Vos who won "Best Dirt Rider" AND "Best Street Rider", and to etnies Dutch BMX rider Barry Kohne for winning "Best Park Rider".

New Iglomat Album
by: Alex | Thursday, March 27, 2008
Yes, Sandy Carson rips on a bike... but did you know about his band? You may recognize Iglomat's track "Dial Wookie" from the etnies Grounded dvd. Iglomat is set to release their self-titled album in June and the early reviews are already rolling in.
Here's what Clash Music had to say:
Iglomat – Iglomat
With song titles such as “Dial Wookie” and “Stormtroopers Of Gentrification”, this album was always going to appeal to the Star Wars geeks in the office. Born out of a trans-Atlantic collaction, this ‘special relationship’ seems to be producing the goods. A mixture of rockin’ beats and post-rockin’ guitars, Iglomat is well worth tracking down.
The record isn't out 'til June 2nd but you can get advanced copies at
KFM Records in the UK. And here at T1's store.

etnies & Verte Launch Party!
by: Alex | Wednesday, March 26, 2008
The etnies & Verte Launch Party celebrated the new collaboration in high style at NYC's Max Fish. Bringing back the classic etnies Ollie King with a fresh new twist, the etnies & Verte Collaboration also includes the new Jameson Shoe and the Pleather Jacket. The exclusive collection will be available in June only at core skate shops.

“We’re really excited about reviving the Ollie King model with etnies,” says Andre Razo, co-owner and co-founder of Verte. “The new design is way more streamlined, still great to skate in and much more wearable for today’s standards. It should also increase your ollie height by at least 17 percent.”
More pics from the party are up on Transworld now. Verte's Mark Razo says to check out all the beautiful people...Mutiny Bikes Web Video

Kachinsky Checks In!
by: Alex | Monday, March 24, 2008
BK's words from the road
Hey Ya'll,
I just thought I'd check in before I board my plane to Austin. I am currently in Arizona where I've spent the past week riding and hanging out in the desert, mountains, sun, snow, skateparks, trails, schools, ditches, and other Arizona establishments.

Thanks to Adam Baker for being a good host and riding buddy. He did flairs, told funny stories, introduced me to some new vocabulary, drank obscene amounts of Arizona iced green tea and has a nice, well-developed beard.

He also made me ride trails, which was amazing; I even took a pic of dirt on my bike since I usually only ride trails once in a blue moon.

The parks were amazing as well. The Chandler bike park was my favorite—no thanks to my rental car getting backed into, or my bike being stolen by a 9-year-old kid (got it back), or me getting sick... but somehow it was still a really, really fun trip. I think warm weather, sunshine, Adam Baker and KC Badger had a lot to do with that.
Thanks guys!

Mike Vincent Benefit: Update
by: Alex | Monday, March 24, 2008

Hello-
On Tuesday, March 18, exactly 2 months after Mike's accident, he was moved from Cedars Sinai to Rancho Los Amigos, a rehabilitation facility in Downey, CA. We were all nervous that he wasn't ready to be moved, but after seeing Rancho and the care the staff are able to provide, we are confident that the right decision was made.
This morning Mike had an EKG and CT scan. There was no swelling or fluid, which is great. However, we also told that Mike's eyesight may be damaged, due to the previous brain swelling. Right now, he is unresponsive to visual stimulation. He has an opthalmology appointment tomorrow morning, and hopefully we will find out more information.
Mike is allowed visitors at Rancho. Visiting hours are 10AM - 8PM, but part of his day is spent in therapy, so you may want to call ahead before visiting. He also seems to respond well to talking on the phone. His room number is 562-401-8193.
If you would like to send mail, this is the mailing address.

Shoe The Shoeless
by: Alex | Monday, March 24, 2008
Last Friday, etnies kicked off Spring Break at the Los Angeles Mission's Easter Event... not quite the barefoot romp we'd normally opt for, but well worth it.

etnies founder and CEO Pierre André Senizergues lead the team in delivering 2,000 pairs of new shoes to the homeless on LA's Skid Row. Each person was welcomed with a hearty holiday meal, a cleansing foot bath and a pair of etnies.

“Growing up I had the opportunity to meet a lot of homeless people while I was out skating spots in the city, and I really felt for them,” said Senizergues.

etnies Snow Day!!
by: Alex | Friday, March 21, 2008
Everyone can use a day out of the office and out in the snow, at least everyone here can. That's why, on Wednesday, the crew here at etnies headed to Bear Mtn for the company's annual Snow Day! Buses and caravans shuttled everyone up to the mountain for a full day of riding and team building. It was the etnies version of a field trip... permission slips and all! The weather was great, the ThirtyTwo boots were awesome(!) and a good time was had by all.
Even a couple team riders joined in the fun. Miss Alize Montes normally shreds on pavement but she's got some moves on the snow too. And we already knew from GvR Snow that Lauren Perkins tears up the slopes when she's not skating.

etnies Snow Team Update
by: Alex | Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Markku Koski stopped by Fuel TV’s studio to chat with Pat and film a Daily Habit episode which will air later this month (check back for air times). Shortly after his visit, he jumped on a flight headed for the US Open in Stratton, VT.

Simon Chamberlain and Joe Sexton recently returned from a successful trip out in Toronto filming with Mack Dawg. Word on the streets...Joe Sexton’s killing it with Mack Dawg.
Marie-France Roy spent the last couple of weeks in Russia getting her shred on and drinking the finest Vodka. She’s headed to Vermont for the US Open this week.
Leanne Pelosi was last seen in the streets of Montreal slaughtering the rails. She’s headed to Vermont to compete in the US open this week.
Ståle Sandbech continues to ride hard and work hard. He’s been shooting tons of photos with his brother and getting a lot of coverage in several magazines.
Tyler Flanagan will be in Mammoth riding everyday and finishing up his home schooling just in time for Spring madness.
Stian Solberg has been hanging out in Southern California working on his tan. He took a slight fall after the GVR snow filming with the StepChild crew at Bear so he decided to take some time off to heal. You may see him in the local mountains sometime this week.
J.P. Walker and Wille Yli-Luoma will be in Whistler for the time being. They plan on posting up to hit the back country for the month or until the weather turns on them.
And happening now...the US Open in Stratton Vermont. Look for results later in the week.
Mole In PitPilot Surf
by: Alex | Tuesday, March 18, 2008
Check out the latest PitPilot cover featuring etnies UK surfer Mole and heavy Irish Break Aileens!

Dan "Mole" Joel is currently ranked among the top UK big wave and tow-in surfers and has clocked more time than most surfing the mystical Irish big wave gem known as Aileens. Tucked away at the bottom of mountain sized inaccessible cliffs on Ireland's west coast, this monster wave is unpredictable, fickle and life threatening should you get it wrong. Get it right, take a few deep breaths and you get the picture. If we told you where it was we would have to kill you.
Mole is part of an elite and fearless crew of UK surfers in search of the biggest swells to hit the UK and Ireland. His commitment and dedication mean that an overnight ferry and all night drive across Ireland to ride 50ft waves, get a few photos and return back to work two days later is not uncommon.

Congrats on the coverage, Mole!

Touring South France...
by: Brink | Sunday, March 16, 2008
The Riders:
Willow
Charles Collet
Evelien Bouilliart
Tuukka Korhonen
Julian Furones
Steve Forstner
Alessandro Magnani
The Recap:
We drove from Basel to Lausanne to pick up Alessandro at the train station, stopped in Lyon to grab Charles, and then had five more hours of driving ahead of us. We got to Nice at three in the morning. Luckily the flights of the rest of the team didn't arrive before noon the next day. Once we got everybody in the van we started hitting the spots in and around Nice.

- Furones... nosebonker.
On the second day we got a small taste of the lifestyle of the rich and famous in Monaco. Only a half hour away from Nice this low-tax paradise has some nice skate spots. Willow got a really good switch heel and Tuukka came trough with a solid line.

We had high expectations for Sunday and the trip to Ventimiglia, Italy. Some of us had already skated there and the spots had something to offer for everybody. Of course things didn’t go as planed and some dark clouds moved in from the mountains. Just as we got to the first spot, raindrops started to fall. We decided to use the off time to drive around to check out more spots. On a streak of more bad luck, the main spot we had hoped to skate was fenced off and scheduled for demolition. As soon as the rain stopped we climbed the fence and started to dry the ground. Willow was jumping down the stairs before it was even halfway dry, to but the cops kicked us out just as he got close to landing the varial heelflip. After a long session at the train station spot, we headed back to Nice to pick up Evelien from the airport.

The weather was not looking very good for Monday, so we decided to head west to Hyeres. On the way there we got stuck in the middle of a crazy thunderstorm and some of the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen. We passed two gnarly accidents on the one-hour drive. Our gamble paid off and the sun came out just as we approached Hyeres. We dropped our stuff at the hotel and headed straight to nearby Toulon to skate the famous “small” rail. The rail got knobbed since the last time we were there, so we had to improvise. After getting kicked out of another spot, we finally got some stuff done near the end of the afternoon.

- Forstner!
The next day we headed back to Toulon to take care of some unfinished business and hit a big gap near Hyeres at night. Willow struggled to get his trick, while we worried about getting kicked out by the janitor of the nearby school. In the end, Willow was successful and we left the spot without any trouble.

- Willow. Ouch.
The last days of the trip were spent in Nice, where we finally got to skate the famous Massena Plaza. Almost everybody got a trick there. Later we headed to a big set of stairs, where Willow jumped as if he wasn’t sore at all from the night before.
Despite some bad luck with the weather, disappearing spots and the police, we had a good time and the trip turned out to be quite productive.

- Tuukka, Charles & Furones
Team Update: March 14, 2008
by: Brink | Saturday, March 15, 2008
As you know, last weekend, Jamie Bestwick Clashed it for charity. But what else has been going on? Let's keep this short 'n sweet.
Morgan Wade was in Puerto Rico on a humanitarian trip for his church. Brian Kachinsky blazed from Chicago to Florida on the UGP Trip. Aaron Ross, apart from filming 8 million videos for etnies BMX, headed from Austin to California on a 'lil roadtrip for the Empire BMX Video shoot.
Sergio Layos is roaming from Madrid to Northern Spain as we speak for Red Bull demos. And last but never ever least, Ruben Alcantara wrote in with some photos and an update:

Whats up? Hows things?
Here it's been good. Loving everything without the pain in my back and legs. I want to ride more and more! Check out this new spot! Super fun! You have to ride the whole thing like a bowl and gap to the wall and ride it to the other part of the tranny. It works good!
I've just been enjoying everything here... trails, pool, parks, waves... you know. I hope you like the pictures. Talk to you more soon!

This ride is going to be held on Sunday April 6 at 1pm. If you can't make it, you can't make it... we understand. For convenience purposes, the start and end point of this ride will be at the Chinatown Train Station. That's good news for the CM/OC contingent, as your train stops just a few blocks from there.
We're going to have t-shirts for sale with original artwork from LAFixed's Teen Idol. All the money will be going directly to Mike. We're also going to have a raffle to help bring in as much money as possible to cover Mike's Bills, which will surely reach at least &1 Million. If you have ANYTHING to donate of ANY value, we encourage you to bring it, or send it beforehand. Raffle tickets will be $2. Any sponsors who will donate, will have a mention/logo on the flyer that is being made right now.
Hope to see everyone come out for a good cause. If you can't, please feel free to donate to Mike, or donate prizes for the raffle. Anything will be greatly appreciated by us and I'm sure Mike will as well.
Please send this to anyone who would be interested. Thanks,
JIM BAUER
Older Info on Mike...
Mike Vincent is a BMX rider who has been a prominent fixture in the sport for many years. Mike has worked as a judge for all of the major competitions, including the X Games, LG Action Sports World Tour, AST Dew Tour, and the former Gravity Games. He has also been a part of most of the core BMX competitions, including Rebel Jam and the CFB events. Mike is also a regular at any Los Angeles track bike gatherings and all around a great guy.
Some of you may have already heard about Mike's terrible accident two weeks ago. While riding his bicycle on the way to work he was struck by a car. Although he sustained minimal body injuries, he did sustain major head trauma. After multiple brain surgeries in the initial days, Mike looked to be headed towards a speedy recovery. He was lucid and talkative. He even managed to tell the doctors that he didn't eat meat along with asking to go to 7-11 for Gatorade.
However, last Thursday his brain swelled dramatically and he had to undergo another brain surgery. To allow space for swelling the right side of his cranium was removed and was placed inside his stomach to keep the bone alive. This episode was a major set back in his recovery.
More bad news came a few days later when the CT revealed that his broken ribs had punctured one of his lungs, which after a few days collapsed and filled up with blood. He underwent another surgery to scrape the clotted blood and to install tubes for drainage. To help his breathing the doctors also performed a tracheotomy and will slowly wean him off the respirator. The doctors have also already found multiple blood clots, which at any point in time can cause serious problems.
On a better note, since his last surgery, he has opened his eyes for a few minutes and has been able to communicate at times by giving a thumb up or by hand squeezes. We fully believe in his full recovery, yet the reality of the situation is that it will be a long road. At the moment, the doctors have predicted that Mike will stay in ICU for another 4 to 6 weeks. This will be just the beginning of his journey to recovery.
Mike is currently staying at the ICU at Cedar Sinai. If you live in the LA area and would like to see him, feel free to come by and show your support. I know his mom appreciates the visitors. Because he is in ICU, the number of people allowed in his room is limited to two. Also, gifts such as flowers are not allowed in, so please save that stuff until he's got his own private room and can enjoy it.
A strong group of friends are in the process of forming a non-profit organization on behalf of Mike and his parents. They will need all the love, support, help, and donations they can get. If you have any ideas and suggestions for fundraisers please send an email with details to MikeVincentUpdates@gmail.com
First and foremost we would like to thank everyone who helped pass the original message along. The initial responses in the form of emails and calls have been a true testament to Mike's vast group of family and friends through out the world.
Update 2/7/08
To those who are getting this as a forwarded message, Mike Vincent is a BMX rider, a professional golf gold caddy, a worker at the local LA animal shelter, a son, and a friend. While riding his bicycle to work last month he was struck by a car. He incurred severe head trauma along with many other injuries.
His four-week stay in ICU at Cedar Sinai has been filled with many achievements and many setbacks. However, his response to the latest few surgeries have seemed to set the momentum in the right direction. The lung surgery was a success and the chest tubes have already been removed. He was taken off the ventilator soon after the tracheotomy, and has since been breathing on his own with no sign of trouble. He has also adapted well to the insertion of the feeding tube into his stomach. Last week Mike started physical therapy, which at the moment consists of being put in a chair a couple of hours a day to stimulate his lungs and circulation.
In the last couple of days, Mike has grown increasingly, although inconsistently, responsive. He's not talking yet, but has been responding to the neuro surgeons' commands to give a thumbs up, show two fingers, raise his arms, etc. Mike is also making purposeful movements such as scratching his face and covering his mouth when he coughs. On another great note, Mike cut short his expected stay in the ICU by 3 weeks. Last night he was moved to Room 8016 in the North Tower of Cedar Sinai.
Even though his condition is rapidly improving, the aftermath of this accident will affect him for years to come. Medical bills alone have already reached a massive amount, even though his journey to recovery has just started. Mike's recovery also comes with many non-medical expenses like the lively hood of his family, who have suspended their everyday lives to be by his side.
Because there are no unions to provide funds for injured "action sports" athletes, no health insurance provided for private contractors, and no other affordable insurance alternative, MIKE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT.
Mike has been a part of and made an impact on many of our lives. Whether we rode with him or hung out and shared a beer with him, he needs us all. Now is the time to come together and help our friend. His recovery will require time, love, hard work, and money. Any amount that you can contribute will help and is greatly appreciated. We all have the power to make a difference. It does not matter the size of the contribution, what matters is the will to help.

So, it seems we own the web today...
by: Brink | Friday, March 14, 2008
Jesus! What the hell just went down? I went to bed last night and woke up to an onslaught of our dudes taking over the interweb! I mean, I could milk this and make it a week's worth of blogs, but that's just lame. Besides, it's Friday, and you need to get stoked and go skate all weekend, right?

Let's start off with Mr. Leeper and the Black Label team at The Berrics. Don't sleep on Kyle... you're gonna see a lot more of him, really soon. Like, in a week.

Malto and Sheckler continue to pop up in various Slaughter at the Opera media, courtesy of Volcom and 411.

Then, I stumbled across all this Ronnie Creager shit and realized, when you sit on your ass for five months due to injury, you get hungry for skating and come back with a vengeance! He's currently over on Thrasher's Burnout, dorkin' in AZ and then over on Price's blog at The Skateboard Mag food shopping...

Seems Ronnie was a also gracious host to PLAN B as they invaded Arizona the other day.

And last but not least, Cliche's new site looks pretty dope and has a new Javier Mendizabal team page. Yeah Javi!

Chris Sörman
by: Alex | Friday, March 14, 2008

After 2007's canceled session, due to poor conditions, a crowd of almost 7000 people turned out for last weekend's resurrection of the Red Bull Gap Session in Garmisch, Germany...and they were hungry for some gnar. Thankfully, etnies Sweden's Chris Sörman totally delivered. With 2.81 seconds airtime and a frontside 10, Chris conquered the 65 foot high jump with a 164 foot wide, 230 foot long landing to earn the awards for "Longest Air Time" and "Best Overall Performance".
Congratulations Chris! Prost!
