For the past 20 years during the month of March, Austin Texas has welcomed the nation’s premiere music showcase: South by Southwest. The land of Tex-Mex, cowboy hats and college students becomes one of liquid diets, skinny jeans and Blackberry-wielding music execs. Unsigned bands and musicians play in every dive bar, coffee house and restaurant in town while bigger names also join in the festivities and pepper the five-day festival with their presence. This years’ festival took place from March 14th-18th and etnies was in town giving product to up-and-coming indie bands who couldn’t have been happier to be gettin' it.

We heard that Central Austin boasts more original music nightclubs in a concentrated area than any other city in the world, and during SXSW the same could be said for hipsters. But we were there to hear good music and that we did. Highlights include: Bloc Party, Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, Cold War Kids, Against Me!, Kings of Leon, The Fratellies, Har Mar Superstar, Mika, The Good, the Bad & the Queen, Jack’s Mannequin, Sondre Lerche, Peter, Bjorn and John, Aqualung, The Bravery, The Willowz, Peaches, Albert Hammond Jr., Razorlight, Six Parts Seven, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Mute Math, The Deadly Syndrome, Scanners, Andrew WK and Pony-up.
