this is a test
Dear Whale Defender,
The U.S. government seems to have forgotten about the whales. If the Bush Administration doesn't play more of a leadership role, Japan's vote-buying and diplomatic pressure could undermine much of the work the international community has done over the past 20 years to defend the whales from commercial whaling at the International Whaling Commission meeting this May.
You've been there for the whales every step of the way. You've followed our expedition to the Southern Ocean, you've written letters to the Bush Administration, you've served up ideas to save the whales, and on Valentine's Day, you showed the Japanese government how much you love whales.
So what more could we possibly cook up for you to do? Well, a Bake Sale to Save the Whales of course!
On April 28th and 29th, I h ope you'll be one of many whale lovers across the country holding bake sales as a fun way to be visible, raise awareness, and engage the public to pressure the U.S. government. What better way to sweeten up the Bush Administration? You can lure sweet-toothed passers-by to eat a cookie and call the White House. And petitions and pie are a winning combination!
We'll announce the bake sales to our big email list of supporters next week, but I'd like to ask you to sign up today as an early-bird bake sale host. It's easy. Just sign-up to host a bake sale, and I'll mail you a free kit with everything you'll need, including a bake sale organizer guide, whale-shaped cookie cutters, sample recipes, fact sheets, petitions and more. You just pick a spot to set up that weekend – in front of your house, i n a park, on the sidewalk – and recruit friends to bring baked goods and help volunteer.
The United States has long been a friend to whales and a strong opponent of the whaling industry. But the U.S. Government is dragging its heels right now. We need to demonstrate that folks across the country care about whale conservation. YOU can help make the Bake Sales to Save the Whales weekend a big splash. Sign up as an early-bird bake sale host today, and get the message out with meringues. Make some "Whaling is Nuts" brownies and mobilize the public. Do it for the whales!
P.S. Check out the pictures that Whale Defenders like you have sent in. If you haven't sent one in yet, it's not too late, just follow the instructions here. You can also help get more hand-written letters mailed to Bush, just download a sample letter here.
P.P.S. I apologize if you've sent me an email in the last month or so and I haven't responded…my computer was stolen and I've lost a lot of correspondence. So, please try me again at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or drop me line anyway…I'd love to hear from you!
