Superbike Racers Show up to a Mulisha Demo

Cheesy
Cheesy

Deegan, Potter, Fluffer, Garland and their Rockstar/Metal Mulisha demos stole the show at Superbike in Fontana over the weekend. Pretty sure people were more pumped on the fmx show than all the big races that were goin' on!

Now that everyone is on the same looking Rockstar bikes and Astars gear for these shows, it's pretty hard to tell who's who (besides Fluffer being the only dork not rocking etnies), so their different goggle sponsors is the biggest giveaway, ie. Electric, Dragon and Von Zipper. Check out the photo gallery and have fun figuring it out!

In between shows it was all about Guitar Hero. Garland, Potter and Tedesco are fuckin' rock stars!

The guys have a ton of these Rockstar demos lined up around the country this year so make sure to look out for one near you.

etnies Girl Australia distributor rider Sally Fitzgibbons competed at the Brother Neilsen Pro Junior at Burleigh Heads last week, easily winning the event’s inaugural three-star rated girls’ division. The 16-year-old was in good form in her first round as she has been all year, dominating the semi-final and then progressing to the final, which she won 15.25 to 6.35, securing her first win of the season and extending her ASP Australasian Pro Junior series ratings lead to 1345 points. The Pro Junior series will now have a break until September, when it will resume in Wollongong with a few surfers still in contention for the title.

Sally leaves for Portugal next week, where she will compete in the ISA World Surfing U18 titles.

Ryan Morais Second in Lites East Championship!

Posted by: Cropley | Monday, April 23, 2007

Ryan Morais

Morais & Townley

Congrats to Ryan Morais for taking second place in the Supercross Lites East Championship. Ryan went into the final round in Detroit with a three point lead. Unfortunately, after a solid second place start to the main event, Ryan stalled his 250F on the second lap. That unlucky mistake cost Ryan some valuable positions and had him battling back from 10th place. Ryan rode strong and made it back up to fifth place by the end of the race, but it wasn't quite enough for the championship and he would have to settle for second overall.

None the less, second place in the stacked East series is damn good and we're stoked for you.

Ryan Morais

Well, it's finally come down to the final round of the East Coat Lites series and none other than Yamaha of Troy rider Ryan Morais is in the points lead! But by no means is it going to be a walk in the park for Morais to win the championship.

There are a few different situations in which Morais could win or lose the championship, but the bottom line is that Townley cannot win and Morais has to finish in front of, or only one position behind Townley. It's going to be tight, but we know he can pull it off! Good Luck!

Benji Ritchie hanging with legendary Gerry Lopez and friend Keoni at Baldface.

What happened to the winter? It’s officially spring and everyone seems to be scrambling to get in as much shredding as they can before the snow melts. Well, here’s a quick update on the etnies/32 team.

Fredrik Austbo was lurking somewhere in Tahoe with the Standard Films crew trying to bag as many days filming as possible until he had to go back to Europe for a demo (booo-hooo). Freddy was on the never-ending contest circuit for majority of the winter. He flew out to Tahoe mid-March purchased a snowmobile so he can continue to go into the backcountry (or what’s left of the backcountry) with the Hatchets and then had to make his way back to Europe for some demo for his Bank sponsor. Freddy plans on heading back to the states to wrap up the rest of the season with the Hatchets so be on the look out for Freddy in Standard's new film due out sometime in September.

baldface

Dustin Craven recently won the Shakedown taking home a whopping $15,000 Canadian! (that’s almost $14,950 USD) Dustin pulled off a front side 1080 to tailslide front 270 out of the box. He said it was a blast and he pretty much stayed intoxicated the entire time. Way to go Craven! Dustin’s been filming with the Capita crew all season long so be sure to check out more information on the Capita Team video due to be out sometime this fall.

John Jackson has been on a mission this season. Back and forth from Canada to Idaho and back to Canada in search of clear skies and powder! He’s been filming with Standard all season long and from the looks of it, Jackson should have another banging part this season. Be sure to check out more info and the latest news and premiere dates.

Benji Ritchie is having a great season, he’s been busy filming all season with the White Out crew. He even got to hang out with legendary Gerry Lopez at Baldface this winter.

markkumethod
Markku Koski kicking one out.

Markku Koski and Stian Solberg have been traveling together for the last few months in search of the next slaughter fest. They’ve been up and down the West Coast filming with the Defective crew. They’re in South Lake Tahoe right now on a Stepchild photo shoot. They’ll be there all week bagging in as many park shots for the new video as possible.

Tyler Lepore recently celebrated his birthday on April 11th with some of his good friends in Vancouver, BC. Happy birthday Rabbit! Ty’s been filming with the Capita crew all season long. He reported the local resorts in Vancouver have been the best it’s ever been this season. He’s a little sad that the season is coming to an end but stoked to check out how the Capita video will turn out.

Janna Meyen has been keeping up with her physical therapy and working towards getting back on her shred stick. She’ll be coaching this summer at High Cascade summer camp along with Wille Yli-Luoma and Leanne Pelosi so if you haven’t signed up... You should go secure your spot.

partypelosi
Party Pelosi at her finest, just moments before drunk dialing her TM at 2:30am.

Hampus Mosesson was last seen in Are, Sweden at the Burton Halfpipe invitational where he placed fourth. Good work Hampus! Hampus has been traveling back and forth from Europe to the states filming with Mack Dawg all season long. Be sure to check back here soon for more info on premiere dates.

Leanne Pelosi... A.k.a. Party Pelosi has been busy filming for her part in the new Runway film all season long. She was last seen in San Francisco on an etniesGirl photo shoot. She along with a few other girls were invited to the men's superpark in Keystone this last weekend. Her next destination? Who knows, maybe your neck of the woods...

Wille Yli-Luoma spent the last few weeks in Alaska trying to take advantage of the record breaking snow they’ve been getting this season. He was up there with the Mack Dawg crew trying to milk the last bit of pow. He’s back in Portland sipping on some java and getting situated with his newly purchased home. Be sure to check out Wille’s signature session at High Cascade snowboard camp this summer.

In other news...

Marie-France Roy celebrated her Birthday April 17th! Happy Birthday Marie-France!

European etnies snow/32 riders Danny Larsen and Remi Lamazouere just got back from their trip to Italy. They went to Cervinia, the south side of the famous Matterhorn for the Apocalisse competition and a photoshoot that was organized by our Italian 32 distributor and the local park guys! Weather was perfect, park was fun and snow conditions were still pretty amazing-sooo much snow left!

32tourists

It was a jam session final, with seven invited riders, and seven riders that made it through the qualification. The guys were stoked about their trophies and the fun event.

Danny took 1st place in the competition and Remi followed in 2nd place. Unfortunately the emcee announced the results wrong during the awards ceremony and caused quite a bit of controversy! But once the dust cleared, well, we all knew the true results!

Thanks Cervinia, thank you Luca & Co. See you next time!

Get to Know etnies Girl Surfer Sally Fitzgibbons

Posted by: Sarah | Tuesday, April 17, 2007

sallyweb400_400

We recently caught up with etnies Girl Australia distributor rider Sally Fitzgibbons, who is making a name for herself with her controlled, aggressive style of surfing. Check out this quick interview with the current girls’ leader of the ASP Australasian Junior Series, and expect to hear a lot more about her in the years to come.

For more info about Sally, read her etnies Girl of the Month interview from July 2005 and visit Sally’s Web site.

What’s your hometown?
I’m from Gerroa, South Coast, New South Wales.

Where do you live now?
Same place, but I travel a lot now.

How and when did you start surfing?
I started at the age of eight when my Dad pushed me onto waves at the river mouth at Gerroa.

Who did you surf with at first?
Just my Dad and my brothers Simon, Russell and Ash.

Who were some early influences on your surfing?
My Dad, Layne, Chelsea and Todd Prestage.

Who do you usually surf with now?
I go surfing with the Roxy crew, the Wrights (Kirby and Tyler), or anyone else hanging at the Pro Junior comps.

Do you enjoy surfing in contests?
Yes, I love it, even when things don’t go well. It’s great fun.

How could contests be improved?
They could incorporate a tag team for fun at some point during the day where you just grab some friends.

What’s the best part about being a pro surfer?
Meeting people and putting myself to the test.

What’s the worst part about being a pro surfer?
Nothing, you get to go surfing!

What are your favorite surf movies?
My favorites are “First Chapter: Dane Reynolds,” “Sabotaj,” “Montaj” and “Campaign.”

What kind of board do you ride?
I ride a DHD Surfboard with FCS fins.

How long is it?
My board is 5’5”.

How did you get on etnies?
My brother Simon contacted Toby Martin when we started doing comps.

What do you like about etnies?
The shoe range and the company vibe.

What do you enjoy most about surfing?
It’s fun and challenging.

Is there anything you dislike about surfing?
Nothing. Surfing is better than not surfing.

Have you ever been bitten or stung in the water?
No, I’ve been lucky so far.

Have you ever been the subject or perpetrator of localism?
Yes. Girls have to cope with it more than boys.

Where in the world are the best waves?
I’m still looking for that place.

Who are your favorite surfers of all time?
Chelsea, Sofia, Steph and Kelly.

What have been the highlights of your surfing career?
My first Pro Junior win when I was 14, placing second at the World Titles and winning back-to-back Aussie titles.

What do you enjoy besides surfing?
I like to skate, play my guitar and run.

What are your future goals, both in surfing and in general?
My goal is to make the WCT and become a professional athlete.

So far, the word from Japan is that in the last few days, the team (Arto, Eric "Sonic" fletcher and Ronnie Creager) hit the Trickstar skatepark in Gunma, (two hours north of Tokyo), then headed to a demo/signing at Sagamihara skatepark in Kanagawa, (an hour hour south of Tokyo), followed by a signing and a sesh at a park in Mayabashi and a signing at Azure Rideshop. Wow, that's a mouthful!

Evidently, Ronnie Creager has been ripping hard and seems to be a huge celebrity in Japan. Pierre Andre and Don Brown handed shoes out to the top local skaters at all the stops and people are genuinely stoked.

It was over the Easter weekend and was a trip called Van City with about 60 dudes from all over Ireland. Seriously one of the best trips I've been on in a long time!

Hope alls well and tell everyone I said hello! Tell Cliff to give me a bell I lost my phone, and with it about 500 numbers :( fuck sake!

Dill Speaks!

Posted by: Brink | Thursday, April 12, 2007

Crailtap posted this little quote from Dill on his "performance" in Chomp on This, the greatest skateboarding video of all time:

I suppose it would only be fair to admit to the fact that I was "intoxicated" slightly when appearing in Chomp On This. I guess I was saying or actually making the comparison between big wave surfing and big tricks in skateboarding. With me being more of a "grounded" or "artsy" skater. I was apparently paying respect to people who take skating to another level, like Heath, Arto and Andrew Reynolds. I believe they are the Laird Hamiltons and Kelly Slaters of our industry. Hope that some what sums it up for you.

Ocotillo Wells Closing? Don't Let it Happen!

Posted by: Cropley | Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Save Ocotillo Wells

ARE YOU WILLING TO GIVE UP 14,731 ACRES OF OFF-ROAD RIDING AREAS FOR GEOTHERMAL POWER DEVELOPMENT?

The San Diego Off-Road Coalition needs all off-roaders to act now. There is grave danger to one of our favorite riding areas.

The Federal Bureau of Land Management wants to lease 14,731 acres of prime off-road land to companies to build geothermal energy plants. Over 80% of the land is inside the Ocotillo Wells SVRA. The remaining acres are just east of Pole Line road and have traditionally been enjoyed for off-roading.

Part of this is the area where the etnies rig always parks, where countless video parts and photos have been shot for your favorite videos and mags, and where events like Red Bull Ride to the Hills and the etnies Two Wheel Tour have taken place. All that could be a thing of the past if this goes through....

It is critical that off-road enthusiasts send their WRITTEN COMMENTS to the BLM to oppose this project.

Also, read this Cycle News article on the subject.

If you value OCOTILLO WELLS you need to take the time to mail a comment and get ALL YOUR FRIENDS to do the same.

DO IT NOW - DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!

Fletch mackin' it while her man was in the car across the parking lot.

After a day down in SD for Spring Break Yo' Self, etnies flow dude Chris Gregson, etnies TM Clifford, Eric Fletcher, emerica flow homie Justin Figueroa and me decided to roam about the OC on Easter Sunday and hit some spots, eat some ice cream and have some fun. Eric Fletcher was having so much fun in fact, that he decided to throw down like, 500 bangers on this rail in less than a half hour. Keep and eye on this kid...

Vote for Leanne and Bev for “If Ullr Was a Girl” Contest by April 18!

Posted by: Sarah | Tuesday, April 10, 2007

etgirl_lpalosi400_400_01

If you haven’t already voted for etnies Girl riders Leanne Pelosi and Bev Vuilleumier for the “If Ullr Was a Girl” contest, they need your votes!

There are four components to the competition, with each being weighed equally. That’s where you come in. The girls need to receive as many votes as possible to help them win. You can vote once per rider, per day, until voting closes on April 18.

The other parts of the contest include a pipe and park event, a creative presentation and a big mountain competition, which will all take place April 13-22 at the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.

The Ullr Girl title and $25,000 grand prize will be awarded to the finalist with the most points after all four competitions.

Please take a moment to vote for Leanne and vote for Bev now!

Good luck, ladies!

etnies Gives Out Free Shoes to Homeless in Los Angeles!

Pierre André Senizergues and some etnies sneaker elves spent a day with homeless Skid Row locals last Friday in downtown Los Angeles and provided more than 2,000 men, women and kids a free hot meal and a brand new pair of etnies.

“Growing up I had the opportunity to meet a lot of homeless people while I was out skating spots in the city, and I really felt for them,” said Pierre André, owner/CEO for etnies. “LA has one of the largest homeless populations in the country, and I’m really glad to do what I can to help.”
