Where Were You Last Week?

Feb 21 2006 / Tuesday

Sergio - Photo: Dillon Hass

Mike Escamilla spent last week hanging out with the etnies surf team in Tavarua, Fiji, chilling, scuba diving and spearing fish. Mike did take his bike with him and built a crazy jump out of cinder blocks and sand and did a demo for the natives who had the hardest time believing that what they were seeing was for real. Mike filmed the whole thing and pictures will be popping up very soon. Mike returned home Saturday and is letting his ailing knee and bruised sternum get some recovery.

Taj Mihelich is out on tour with the Redneck Manifesto right now playing chauffer and driving them around more hours than he cares to mention…he’s been spending a good 8+ hours a day making sure the guys get to each and every show. Over the weekend Taj got to ride at Chad Degroot's new park in Orlando called Mesh Skatepark and is really looking forward to going back and filming some stuff for the etnies vid there.
Taj’s shoe the Roscoe is available...get some!

Ruben Alcantara is home in Spain working very hard on making his part as amazing as possible for the coming etnies vid that is due out the end of 2006. We’ve seen some clips and pictures here at etnies, and believe us when we say there is some really amazing stuff coming your way. Surf’s up by the way.
Ruben's shoe the Terranea is also in stores, try 'em out.

Jamie Bestwick is home in State College with wife Kerry and baby Samuel working hard at camp getting ready for the coming year packed full of events. Hopefully Jamie will have as good of a year as last year. I guess we’ll have to wait and see....

Dave Freimuth, 8th grade - one of the "funny" photos.

Dave Freimuth has a bad-ass interview in the current RIDE UK, check it out! It’s got some amazing (if not funny) photos in it, it’s pretty long and one of the better interviews you’ll read.

Dave was in nice sunny Florida where he hung out for a week with Chad Degroot, but came home to a dead van, minus 28 degree weather and 3 feet of snow blocking the back door of his house. And on the way home from the airport Dave and Patie got to witness a semi truck fall through some ice into a lake! Keep any eye out for new Baco design T’s coming from Dave and Chad. If all else fails you have to check out Dave’s interview in RIDE UK.

Sergio Layos headed to Mexico where he competed in the Red Bull “Drenaje” this past weekend. It went down in a dirty sewer in Monterrey, Mexico, much to the enjoyment of all the participants. Sergio placed 3rd in a sea of 40 riders which he was pretty happy about. What he wasn’t so happy about was apparently the hotel folks felt it might be a nice idea to steal from Sergio’s, as well as other guests, hotel rooms. Sergio had $900 go MIA from his room (Kevin Porter had is credit cards stolen from his room). Sergio is currently in California hanging out and filming for the etnies video but he will be heading home Thursday to Madrid.

Morgan Wade drove back home to Tyler, Texas from California after the team photo shoot to hang with his family and enjoy some R&R. But now he is currently out on a road trip with some friends, heading up to Toronto in preparation for the Metro Jam that will be going on March 3-5.

Garrett Byrnes is home in New Jersey working like a SOB and will be heading to Austin this coming weekend to attend the Empire BMX contest—sponsored by etnies!

Joe Rich has been home working hard on T1 and the weather’s been great so he’s been riding outside a bunch. Joe did the trip down to San Antonio with Stricker, Sandy Carson and a bunch of the other guys and had a great time filming and shooting photos. The Empire contest sponsored by etnies is this weekend, so expect to hear reports of Joe shredding the Ramp Ranch to hell. Amos Burke is in town and staying with Joe.

John Heaton has had his Fiancé Andrea’s sister and boyfriend in town, so he’s been playing tour guide and checked out some amazing waterfalls as well as a suspension bridge. Tuesday and Thursday John worked at 3 Ride bike store as usual. John’s stressing a bit knowing that he has to film for two videos this year, Volume and etnies…. Oh yeah...if you didn’t know already, John now rides for Volume Bikes. He played hockey a couple of times this last week which kicked his ass big time. John is going to be at the Toronto Metro Jam next weekend so watch for him to kick some ass there.

Josh Stricker got his own place down in Austin, which he is real stoked about. He’s been filming with Wiz and Scerbo, and he also did a trip down to San Antonio this past week with a bunch of guys including etnies teammates Sandy Carson and Joe Rich. By all accounts they got a lot done. “Two for Tuesday” is not going as well as first expected. Keep an eye out for future shots of Josh from the etnies team photo shoot.

Sandy Carson, as always, works harder than most, he’s currently working on the next issue of DIG BMX—and while I mention DIG, Sandy lined up a photo contest with etnies where whoever submits photos to him can potentially win a bunch of etnies gear and, most importantly, get the photo they shot put in an upcoming issue of DIG. Wow! ENTER HERE!

Last week Sandy headed down to San Antonio with etnies teammate Joe Rich and Josh Stricker and did some filming for the etnies vid which is due out at the end of ‘06. Sandy is currently out on tour with Taj Mihelich and the Redneck Manifesto in van with no heating in the middle of freezing-ass Chicago.

1 Comment Where Were You Last Week?

  1. So a while ago I went to the dew action sports tour in Orlando, originally we went to see Ryan Sheckler, because he is like the greatest. Edventually we found ourselves watching the BMX vert practice and finals. In my opinion the greatest riders were Jamie Bestwick and Dave Mirra. They kicked butt on vert. Even though we could not stay and finish watching the finals I now officially love BMX. I tried racing in a BMX dirt competition with my cousins when I was little, needless to say it did not go well, and not just because I am a girl, but watching it is still fun. And next time I'm at a competition like the Dew Action Sports tour and etc. I'm totally gonna watch more then just Ryan Sheckler skateboard.
