Euro Championships!

Aug 14 2006 / Monday

etnies European team rider Juergen Horrwarth, (Germany) was crowned European Champion in both Vert and Miniramp-Bowl at this weekend’s European Skateboard Championships in Basel, Switzerland. In his winning Vert run, Horrwarth hit 27 Walls with switch lip tricks galore and tailgrab 540s.

At barely four feet tall, 11-year-old etnies rider Axel Cruysberghs from Belgium won fourth place in Men’s Street and was quite the crowd pleaser with 360 ollies over the pyramid, kickflips over the fun box, front boardslides on the big rail and flawless backside and frontside flips over the pyramid

The etnies winner’s circle included etnies Girl Europe team rider, Ianire Elorriaga, from Spain, who effortlessly dominated the other 24 female competitors and earning the European title in Girl’s Street.

New to the ESC this year was the European Skateboard Junior Champs, where 63 kids, up to age 16, came to compete and get their chance to run with the pros. Fifteen-year-old Rob Maatman from the Netherlands ranked top winner of the Junior Champs and the 15-16 age group, qualifying him and the remaining top nine to compete in the main Street event. Included in the top nine were etnies’ distributor team riders Theo Derrien (age 12) and Werner Sandoz (age 11) from France, as well as Karim Rhihla (age 15) and Albert Nyberg (age 14) from Sweden. Keep your eyes on these young skaters, as they’re not stoppin’ here!
