From September 16th-18th, 28 of the world’s best surfers, including etnies’ CJ Kanuha, David & Jonathon Dupont, Benjamin Sanchis (France), Fredo Robin (France) and Samba Mann (Australia), will make their way to the Basque shores of San Sebastian, Spain to take part in the invitation only Nixon Surf Challenge.
Presented by etnies, the event is a far cry from other high-stress competitions where points, individual wave scores and rankings count for everything. The judging format allows for a more open and free surfing style with the invited surfers scoring their peers performance in the semi’s and finals, basing points on style, continuity, airs and innovation.
The Nixon Surf Challenge is a gathering of friends from across the globe and an event that has become a haven of good waves, calm atmosphere and relaxing fun in the hectic calendar of professional surfers. Due to its growing popularity, this year showed an overwhelming demand of surfers wanting to join the competition, resulting in shifting the format to allow for four more surfers, increasing the original invitational total from 24 to 28.
In a world where the pressure of competitions often takes over the pleasure of a passion, it is sometimes good to remind yourself why you surf – fun, friends and ridin’ waves.
