etnies Girl and BlueStarrMX team riders Tarah Gieger and Sarah Whitmore kicked off the highly anticipated 2005 Women's Motocross Association (WMA) National Series at Glen Helen this past Saturday by taking first and second place, respectively. Coming off a pelvis injury sustained in late January, Tarah swept both heats and won the Sick Racing Holeshot Award in the second moto, earning her the overall win. “I’ve never won both motos, so I am really excited about this accomplishment,” she said. Sarah battled it out against Jessica Patterson to secure second place overall.

etnies Girl motocross team manager Matt Chapman was thrilled with the team’s results and said, “I can't think of a better way to kick off the season than by taking the top two positions in the race this weekend and emerging as the WMA leaders. We wish the girls best of luck in round two this weekend at Hangtown.”
Fuel TV's “GKA” was on-site to catch all the action for an upcoming episode, as was Speedvision's “2 Wheel Tuesday.” “With almost a full gate here today these women put on a great race for their fans,” said WMA President Miki Keller. “Our pro program has been growing by leaps and bounds with more and more amateur girls turning pro each year, so the races will just continue to get more competitive.”
Both Gieger and Whitmore have been in Southern California since early last week preparing for the race. Next up, they're off to round two of the WMA National Series held in conjunction with the AMA National Outdoor Series on Saturday at Hangtown in Sacramento, Calif., followed by round three at Thunder Valley in Lakewood, Colo., on July 23-24, round four in Washougal, Wash., and round five at Steel City in Delmont, Penn.
