Reed Fights Back From Behind!

Feb 8 2005 / Tuesday

With a first turn crash in the 250 main at the Anaheim Supercross Saturday night, etnies rider Chad Reed fought through the 20 rider field from last place to finish 2nd. By the end of lap one Reed was already in 14th and proceeded to pick off riders one by one. All 45,000 fans were on their feet cheering Reed on for every pass he made. By lap 15 Reed easily passed Michael Byrne to take over the second position where he would end up finishing.

An impressive showing considering Reed injured his neck while over clearing a jump at Thursdays press day. He also had a nasty crash during the first practice, and skipped second practice to recover and be fresh for the night show. It seemed to work, because his neck didn’t seem to faze him a bit while passing the best racers in the world like they were Lake Elsinore track vet riders.

Mike LaRocco had some positions to make up also. The Rock had a bad start and was well outside of the top 10, but the Rock battled back to take a hard fought and respectable 6th place finish. One of my favorite parts of the night (as far as racing goes) and a definite fan favorite was the duel between LaRocco and Jeremy McGrath in 250 heat race #2. The two were banging bars for the first few laps and the crowd was going nuts. In the split start option section, the Rock would go right and MC would go left, MC goes right, the Rock goes left. It didn’t matter, every time LaRocco was still out in front of the 7 time champ. In the end…LaRocco emerged victorious over MC and finished 3rd in that heat race.

Reed is now 2nd and LaRocco is in 3rd in the 250cc THQ AMA Supercross Series Season Standings. LaRocco is 2nd in the THQ World Supercross GP Season Standings.

3 Etnies Riders in the Top 5

The gate drops on the 125 main and who is in front after the tricky split start? None other than Danny Smith who was closely followed by Billy Laninovich into the first section. After a little fumble Danny dropped back to 4th and Billy held the 2nd position. Laninovich pulled away from most of the pack, caught up with Tedesco and finished only 2 seconds out of 1st place. Laninovich won his first ever supercross last weekend and with a 2nd place finish this weekend he is on his way to the top of the points if he keeps it up.

It came down to the last lap to see which Boost Mobile Yamaha of Troy and etnies teammate (Danny Smith or Brett Metcalfe) would come out with the 4th place spot. They were head to head into the last couple of turns and Smith held on to his 4th position and Brett rounded out the top 5.

etnies MX team manager Matt Chapman and Metal Mulisha’s Brandon Zundel brought out their trailers and BBQ’s to the Anaheim parking lot for selected VIPs, friends and random stragglers to hang out and have some food and beers before the races.

Seth Enslow and Deegan were among the many hanging out at the etnies pit. it was good times.
