Etnies Bowlmasters At The Cradle!

Jun 28 2004 / Monday

For the third time, the etnies Bowlmasters went down at the Cradle skatepark. Emerica rider Chris Senn from Grass Valley, California worked his way up, heat after heat, and ollied into the deep end for 1st place--all while displaying his penchant for speed, lines and creativity.
2nd place was claimed by Tony Trujillo, who boasted an endless supply of tricks and momentum. He also won the From Marseille to Brixlegg award for the Best Skateboarder from the Quiksilver Bowlriders, where he placed 2nd, as well, and the etnies Bowlmasters.
Ben Krahn from Portland, Oregon placed 3rd, displaying the longest and most technical lines of all the finalists. The twenty-nine year old Emerica team rider used the whole park and did tricks no one else thought of. Ben also won Best Line.
It was a tough decision who did the highest cradle carve, so the prize was split between the locals Matthias CradleboyӔ Trobos and Chris Percival. The Best Trick went to Brent Atchley from Portland, Oregon, with a nollie heel disaster on the midsection.
Friday was qualification day for the etnies Bowlmasters and over fifty riders entered the competition. Even Joe Hammeke from Thrasher magazine could not resist and dropped-in as the last rider in the last heat. The youngest competitor was five year old Emil Holst from Copenhagen, Denmark, who was not afraid to drop-in to the deep end.
On Saturday, it was time for round one. Forty skateboarders competed in heats of five, with three advancing to the Quarter-Finals, which also happened on the same day. Outstanding was Marseille local Alexandre Cochini, who never stopped skating the park and placed 4th in the Finals.
After a long day in the sun, it was time to party at the castle in Rattenberg, where Matthias Hoffmann set-up a brilliant event with the Surfaholics, Stimilions and the Cardiax.
The sun rose too early on Sunday, with the Semi-Finals and Finals on the schedule, but it was time to start the day with the 4th place round. This round contained all of yesterday's 4th place riders who had a chance to enter the Semi-Finals. The judges had a hard time deciding which of the four would go through. Finally, Daniel Cardone from Italy convinced the judges with his unique style and David Matelleur from Belgium proved to be the toughest skateboarder of the weekend.
The Semi-Finals contained two heats of seven skateboaders, each of whom had an introduction run of forty-five seconds followed by a ten-minute jam session.
For the Finals, six men were chosen to skate an introduction run and a fifteen minute jam session: Alex Giraud from Marseille, France blasted a transfer never accomplished before, flying over the hip platform to the mid bowl. Tomi Toiminen and the judges all agreed to call the new move the Giraud Transfer.

Benji Galloway from South Carolina, USA made his way through with impossible combinations of tricks to earn 5th place.
Thanks to the Cradle Skatepark, etnies, Quiksilver and Eastpak, and as Dave Duncan from World Cup Skateboarding said, This is one of the most beautiful places in the world.Ӕ Thanks also to the cities of Brixlegg, Kramsach and Rattenberg, who have supported skateboarding by building a Dreamland skatepark. This brand new concrete park was built in 2001 by the Dreamland builders, who also built the Burnside skatepark in the United States and are now finishing a new park in Bologna, Italy.
