BMX Team Report 05-24-04

May 25 2004 / Tuesday

The following etnies BMX riders will be attending the Red Bull Three Degrees event in Cardiff, Wales, followed by a road trip with UK etnies distributor A4 and UK Ride BMX to the BMX Worlds in Cologne, Germany on June 24-27: Mike Escamilla, Ruben Alcantara, Dave Freimuth and Garrett Byrnes

Mike Escamilla has been pretty much chilling this week. He's not really up to too much other than spending quality time with his wife and daughter, Haley. He got ready to head out to Vancouver on Monday, May 24 to go shoot photos for an upcoming interview in Dig magazine. He is also going to shoot some pictures for etnies. Check out Mike's Pro Hotseat on BMX Online, as well as a feature on his new bike at
Taj Mihelich has, as usual, been working his ass off at T1. Hes also been helping etnies teammate Ruben Alcantara work on drawings of the upcoming etnies Ruben shoe, revising some small details. Besides that fun stuff, Taj managed to get some filming in for the upcoming T1 video due out in mid-July. He also shot photos for upcoming etnies catalogs. Taj is manning the T1 booth at Subdivision, a BMX-only trade show at Binghamton, New York's East Coast Terminal Skatepark, as well as competing in the La Revolution there. He is also getting ready for the BMX Worlds in Cologne, Germany on June 24-27.
Ruben Alcantara has been down in Austin for the last couple of weeks riding trails and street, shooting pictures with etnies teammate Sandy Carson for Dig magazine and filming for the T1 video due out in mid-July. Ruben has been working on his long-awaited etnies shoe with the help of etnies teammate Taj Mihelich. Ruben will be competing at the La Revolution contest at the East Coast Terminal Skatepark in Binghamton, New York. He will then come out to California to hang for a couple of days to go over shoe stuff before taking off to Europe for the two contests mentioned above, then head back to Malaga, Spain for a couple of weeks.
Joe Rich has been working hard on the T1 video, both in front of and behind the camera. T1 recently hosted a benefit for their art guy, who runs an art museum in Austin. There was plenty of riding, bands playing, food and good times for all. Joe has also been riding his motorcycle and getting in some swimming.
ItҒs been raining for the last week or so in Appleton, turning Dave Freimuths backyard into a lake. He claims ducks have even taken up residence. Dave and his good friend and etnies new flow rider Brian Kachinski had a great time riding Area 51's old ramps in Dulac, Wisconsin, where they've been relocated to a new park called Midway. Check
Sandy Carson just wrapped-up the latest issue of Dig magazine and started on the next. He's been shooting photos of etnies teammates Taj Mihelich, Joe Rich and Austin semi-resident Ruben Alcantara. Sandy's been riding the 9th Street trails with everyone, and, due to the 95 degree weather, doing plenty of swimming. He just finished up filming for the Federal Bikes video and headed off to Vancouver, where the video is in the final stages of editing. Sandy is getting ready to head over to Europe with his girl to do some touring around before driving over to Cologne, Germany for the BMX Worlds.
Nate Wessel had planned on going out to Philadelphia to build some ramps in the backyard of Little Devil clothing company owner Derek Adams, but when he got there and started the project, he got shut down by the city for not having permits. He tried to figure it out on the spot, but itҒs going to take a little while. Instead, Nate headed over to Van Homan's house, tore down the garage ramps and put up a small garage-size skate mini and sessioned that before heading out to Woodward East on Monday, where he will be staying until he leaves for Cincinnati to judge an MSS contest at the end of May / beginning of June.
Garrett Byrnes has been enjoying some chill time at home and getting some surfing in now that the weather has been getting better. Hes also been riding quite a bit, hitting the trails. His wrist is not feeling too bad, so he's planning on getting surgery in the Winter, so he won't miss a Summer full of fun trips and events. Garrett will be going to Binghamton, New York this coming weekend for the Subdivision BMX trade show at The East Coast Terminal, where they will also be holding the La Revolution contest. Garrett is also excited about going back to Europe for the Red Bull and BMX Worlds events.
Josh Stricker has been in California for the last week or so on a road trip with some friends. He visited his family here, and has also been super busy shooting and filming for the upcoming and long-awaited S&M Bikes video. Josh and the crew rode street in downtown LA, as well as plenty of ditches and a couple of bike-illegal concrete skateparks. Josh is going on Props Road Fools in June.
Brian Terada has been home for about a week now from a two-week trip to Italy, where he filmed with the We the People team for their upcoming video. BrianҒs ankle has been bugging him from repetitive crank smacks, so he's thinking about getting it checked out. Brian has been taking it pretty easy since being home, only riding locally. Hes going to venture out and head up to the broken pool that he was featured riding in an etnies ad a few months ago. Brian will be heading over to Cologne, Germany for the BMX Worlds.
