BMX Team Report 05-16-04

May 16 2004 / Sunday

After the BMX PIG contest where he and etnies team mate John Heaton placed 3rd a couple of weeks ago, Mike Escamilla
headed back up to Woodward west to try his luck on the outdoor street course. Once again competing in the Hoffman Bikes-run CFB competition, Mike had all the lines to beat the competition, but due to a few falls, he missed the finals by only a couple of spots.
Mike was also recently featured on the Fuel TV channel with a behind-the-scenes making of his etnies Forward video part. He also had a feature on Fuel TV's Exposure, explaining what it takes to be set on fire and perform the various other stunts. Mike spent last weekend hanging out and surfing with fellow etnies team rider Ruben Alcantara. Rooftop put a new bike together, in LA Lakers yellow, and spent Mother's Day with his family.

After the Game of PIG that Taj Mihelich
competed in with fellow T1 / etnies rider Garrett Byrnes, he met-up with the rest of the T1 team in Utah to do some filming. After that, Taj headed home to Austin and has been working harder than ever at T1, now that they are taking care of their own distribution after parting ways with TIP. Taj has
been clocking footage at home for his upcoming part in the long awaited T1 video. Keep an eye out for some original and amazing stuff to come from that. Taj has been wearing samples of his new signature shoe from etnies, the Taj 3, and it's looking really good!

Ruben Alcantara
had been home in Spain for the last four months, but now hes back and enjoying everything the U.S. has to offer. He spent the last week out here in California to work on his upcoming signature shoe with etnies, as well as get some riding in at some local spots, including the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest and a top secret pool. Ruben also enjoyed some awesome ditch sessions that should spawn some nice coverage in an upcoming TransWorld
BMX. Keep an eye out for an out of hand move that he does in usual Ruben style҅balls out. Ruben also spent some time surfing with etnies teammate Mike Escamilla in Huntington Beach. He went on a photo shoot with Fox racing for upcoming catalog stuff over the weekend, and then headed out to Austin on Monday, May 10. Check out Ruben's interview in the current issue of Ride BMX magazine.

Joe Rich
has been pulling double shifts lately, what with working on the T1 video, logging in footage and editing at night, he has also been busting his ass over at T1, helping shipping and working closer than ever with co-company owner and Etnies teammate Taj Mihelich to keep things running smoothly now that T1 has parted ways with Tip Distribution. Joe was out on the road doing a road trip for a while with the rest of the T1 team to get footage for the T1 video. The trip included stops in New Mexico, Colorado and Utah (not necessarily in that order). Keep an eye out for the next T1 ad in Dig BMX, featuring T1 / etnies rider Garrett Byrnes. Holy crap!Ӕ is all I can say.

Josh Stricker
has been enjoying time in Philadelphia since he moved back a couple of months ago. He missed the riding spots and his friends there. Josh just headed out on a road trip with some friends out to California. The trip should take a few weeks,
clocking footage for the upcoming S&M video, taking pictures and hitting up some original spots with photographer extraordinaire Rob Dolecki in tow. Josh shot with Ride magazine's Jeff Zielinski before leaving on the trip.

Nate Wessel
has been out in California busting his ass building new obstacles up at Woodward West for the Game of PIG and the CFB that was up there last weekend. Nate also rode really well in the PIG contest, as well as the CFB, but didnt make the finals. While out here in Cali, Nate did manage to get away and get some well-deserved rest and relaxation down in the Oceanside / San Diego area, where he did some surfing and motocross with buddy Adam Booth. Nate is on a never-ending quest to build a bigger and better monster truck.

Dave Freimuth
has been gone a bunch lately, after competing in the BMX PIG contest atWoodward West as part of the MacNeil team. He and teammate Alistair Whitton didnҒt make
the finals, so Dave headed off to do a contest and some demos in Japan for MacNeil Bikes. He will be home this week.

After competing in the PIG contest at Woodward West, Garrett Byrnes
headed out to Utah with etnies teammate Taj Mihelich to meet up with the rest of the T1 team to shoot for their video. Garrett is still having issues with his wrist, but hes been getting by. He may hold off until Winter to get surgery, so as to not miss lots of fun stuff going on this Summer. Keep an eye out for GarrettҒs T1 ad coming up in Dig. Holy cow!!

Sandy Carson
has been busy working on Dig issue 38, which is coming soon. He has also been working on his own www.sandycarson.com
website, developing
black and white pictures in his own personal dark room at home. Sandys been riding a crap load at the 9th Street trails, as well as the T1 ramp with the crew over there. HeҒs also been shooting some super-late, last-minute final footage for the Federal bikes video due very soon.

John Heaton
competed in the BMX PIG event at Woodward West and placed a respectable 3rd with etnies teammate Mike Escamilla. The two had a great time and kicked major ass! John is back home in Toronto riding and enjoying better weather. Keep an eye out for his upcoming etnies ad in Ride BMX.
