Backyard Jam Bournemouth 2004

Apr 7 2004 / Wednesday

International Centre
Bournemouth, England
April 2-4, 2004

The first etnies Backyard Jam of 2004 took place at the beginning of April and it was certainly a treat. With way over 70 professional riders and 100 experts, some of the most amazing riding went down over the three days of the contest, leaving people gasping in astonishment.

The rider list was second to none with a huge etnies team presence, including Mike Escamilla, Taj Mihelich, Jon Heaton, Garrett Byrnes, Sandy Carson and Joe Rich, to name but a few. The winner of the pro category was UGPs Gary Young, with a wall ride to ice pick on top of the wall. MacNeil bikes owner Jay Miron took second and wowed the crowd with his no-handed flip over the wedge spine.

The first-ever three-day Backyard Jam held some surprises for spectators and riders alike with a stealth course change on Saturday night in time for pro finals on Sunday, which left everyone wondering if they were seeing things. There was also a Best Trick contest for the first time ever at Backyard, which was won by Federal team rider Corey Martinez with a 360 tire tap to foot jam tail whip on the spine.

In the expert category, BY Jam regular Miles Davies took the top place just ahead of Luke Elliot. The quality of the expert riders is astounding every time, and watchful professionals could check out the future competition.

As is usual at Backyard, a huge amount of free products were handed out, particularly from the etnies tent located on the course, with special etnies Backyard Jam T-shirts being the highlight. If you needed a break from the riding, you could walk round the stalls selling BMX parts and accessories, including Lord, Gate 8, Custom Riders and On Yer Bike.

Backyard Jam will be returning to the U.K this year with more dates and venues to be confirmed. Please keep checking
for an announcement.
