Mike Escamilla spent a lot of time riding the Primo ramps last week, then he drove out to Douglas, Arizona (right on the boarder of Auga Prieto, Mexico) with Edwin De La Rosa, Glen Milligan and Chase Dehart to do a demo and judge a contest. All of the guys stayed at a supposed haunted hotel that Pancho Villa burned down back in the day to escape capture. The crew also stopped in the town of Tombstone to check things out, watch a mock gunfight and get a group photo in which they closely resemble the Village People. Buy a pair of Mike's etnies Rooftop 3 shoes right now!
Taj Mihelich has finally recovered from being sick and has been working over at T1 and cracking the whip. Hes also back on his bike enjoying the Fall weather. This past weekend, Taj and the crew were to put on a benefit for a local art show, but it got rained out. HeҒs going to France for another benefit in a couple of weeks, and will also premiere the new T1 video. While in the vicinity, Taj is going over to Ireland to visit his friends in the band Redneck Manifesto. Besides all of this, he has been playing a lot of music, putting on rock shows at the Ritz and working on some new colorways of his etnies pro model shoe, the Roscoe, for the Fall 2005 line. The Roscoe will debut in January 2005.
Ruben Alcantara is currently on a Fly Bikes tour up the East Coast of Spain, heading toward Barcelona with etnies teammate Sergio Layos and the rest of the Fly crew. He is also running current samples of his own etnies signature shoe, the Terranea, which will be available in June 2005. Last week, prior to taking off on the Fly trip, Ruben rode his motorcycle with some friends in Malaga and also shredded the local BMX trails, much to his pleasure.
Jamie Bestwick has been home spending as much time as possible with his newly pregnant wife, Kerry. He has also been playing golf before the crappy weather sets in, as well as shredding all the ramps at Camp Woodward. This past weekend, Jamie headed out to South Carolina to attend some opening ceremonies and promotions for the upcoming Mountain Dew five-stop NBC series that will be taking place in 2005. Jamie was there with the likes of Dale Earnhart Junior and Tom Penny.
Joe Rich has recently been seen back on his bike after months of hard work on the now finished, first-ever Terrible One video, which should be available for your Christmas consumption. He has been also helping out with the Ritz rock shows and keeping himself out of trouble. Joe had his buddy Leigh from Tasmania in town, so he has been playing his usual role as a host. He has also been making some music CDs for friends, shooting photos and answering emails at the T1 office. Joe will be back on his bike riding at the skatepark of Austin with etnies teammate and good friend Sandy Carson tonight.
Dave Freimuth just got back from the Florida Keys, where he had a crapload of fun with his good friend, Chad Degroot, celebrating turning 21 again for the third or fourth time. While down there, he also got some snorkeling in and rented some scooters to cruise around on. In keeping with his current roll of spotting famous people at random, Dave saw the Minnesota Vikings in the airport on his way home, and then Prince cruised by 10 minutes later.
John Heaton has had a pretty chill week at home in Woodstock, Ontario since getting home form the Baco Jam, where he placed 3rd. The weather has been pretty good, so hes been enjoying some outdoor concrete park sessions, as well as some street riding. Other than that, John has been pretty much hanging at home, relaxing and loving not being on the road--especially now that he has to train and babysit his new dog.
Josh Stricker has had a pretty mellow week. HeҒs tried to stay warm, as the weather has been getting a little crappier. He did go into New York City to hang with his buddy Bob Scerbo, and he has plans to go up to Ithaca to hang out with Mike Tagliavento this week. Josh has been also working on Happy Hour, his new clothing brand that is going to be distributed through his bike sponsor, S&M Bikes. Now that the weather is not-so-nice in Philadelphia, Josh has plans to fly South for the Winter, so to speak, and find better climates.

Sandy Carson has had his buddy Paul from Scotland in town, so hes been playing host and showing him the sights and all the good spots of Austin. SandyҒs also been shooting plenty of photos at the Five-Hip Ditch and the Lizard Ditch. Hes also been working on an interview for the premiere issue of a brand new BMX magazine out of South Africa called Source. Other than that, Sandy has been working on upcoming Dig, playing and recording music, and he just wrapped-up a slide show of his work for the new Federal Bikes video. Check it out soon!
Garrett Byrnes had a bitchinҒ week. He went to check out Slayer, who were playing at a small, local club. He has friends who run the joint, so not only did Sandy get in for free, but he also got to stand a mere six feet from the stage--so close that he almost got kicked in the head. Garrett was loving it, for sure. Besides almost being deaf, Garrett got some riding in on his newly-revamped wrist. He also did some more surfing. While his girl Crystal is out of town in Florida, Garrett is taking her place waiting tables at a local vegan restaurant.
