The water was cleared so the Goofys and Regulars could battle it out at the first ever Goofy Foot Against Regular Foot Surf Contest, which went off without a hitch on Saturday, June 28 at Windansea beach in La Jolla. The beer was flowing (Budweiser, of course) and the cops never hassled. The waves left something to be desired, but there was at least a set or two in every heat.
World Longboard Champion Joel Tudor ended-up winning both senior divisions (shortboard and longboard)--probably because he doesnt even drink! etnies rider Ian Rotgans grabbed second, Peter King of MTV claimed third, Mickey Minor nabbed fourth, John Roseman (owner of Tavarua Island) got fifth and Miko Flemming ended-up in sixth.
In the Juniors Division, etnies rider Mark Wolfinger came in first, and Jonathan and David Dupont took second and third, respectively. Overall, etnies riders dominated and the Goofy Foots won, of course! Everyone agreed that it was the best surf contest in years because of the vibe and the format. LetҒs do it again!
