Fun In The 1600

Oct 13 2003 / Monday

Thought I'd share a photo from last weekend in Vegas, where we went out racing our 1600 car. After finishing 2nd three weeks ago at the last major event at Primm, Nevada, we decided to take the car out for a fun race without doing a full prep job just to have a good time and see how she would go. On the first of four sixty-two mile laps, we broke a bolt in the power steering and lost the brakes, but still trudged on and were running around 6th at the halfway mark. Sometime on the third lap, the studs in the front right started sheering off--most likely as a result of running with the front end broken. The team all took turns driving after we deemed we were out of the hunt and one of the guys (Greg Distefano) even inverted her. We went for fun and we accomplished that, and as a bonus, even made it to the finish line--albeit in 19th position. Five races ran this year: a 3rd, 2nd, tranny, 2nd and now this debacle. Next up, we get serious and travel to Baja for the Baja 1000 in late November.Cameron Steele
