Escamilla Gets Cover & Interview of Ride BMX Mag

Jun 19 2002 / Wednesday

Taj Mihelich hasnՒt
set a day yet, but he is tying-up some loose ends at T1 so everything
will run smoothly there while he is gone to Woodward. He isnt sure
how long heҒs going to stay there, hes just going to concentrate
on riding and hanging with the kids. ItҒs been really hot at home,
so the evening sessions have been going down on the T1 ramp as well as
the 9th street trails.
After coming back from Pennsylvania, Joe
Rich resumed his routine of riding the T1 ramp and the 9th street
trails, now that they have been fixed-up. Joe has also been working on
laying-out some new MacNeil ads and catalog stuff for Etnies teammate
Ruben Alcantara. ItՒs too Damn hot in Austin!!!!!
After being home for only one day, Ruben
Alcantara left for Costa Rica on Tuesday morning for ten days. He
emailed and said (in broken English) that heՒs been surfing and
that its is awesome and beautiful out thereҗtrying to make
everyone jealous.
After attending the Long Beach Forward video premier, Mike
Escamilla resumed taking care of his daughter Haley while trying to
get his ankle to heel՗which seems to be taking forever, according
to Mike. When I called to check in with him, he was vacuuming the house.
When not playing maid, he has been working on getting the Alaska trip
Sandy Carson has been working
on doing some editorial stuff for the next issue of DIG magazine. He has
also put some newer tricks together to give to Parrick for the Etnies
Forward video, but it might be too late. In addition to riding the trails,
Sandy has been doing the night session thing on the T1 ramp. He turned
the big three-O on Thursday and celebrated by going camping for the weekend
at the beach.
Օ Nathan Wessel is at Woodward
camp for the summer, working on a HUGE, insane downhill BMX track. Nate
had a big part in designing the track and Woodward pretty much let him
do as he pleased. He explained that the start gate alone is an obstacle
itself. When the gate drops, you have to do a five-foot drop-off before
you even hit terra-firma. The only thing Nate was bummed about was that
the back-loader keeps messing-up and really slowing him down.
Brian Terada has been working on getting his
passport so that he can go to the Backyard Jam. Brian has been riding
the newly-revamped Skate Street skatepark where he bruised his heel on
Wednesday riding the new bowl there.
Օ Jason Enns has been doing
the regular routine of waking up at around 10:00 AM and watching Jenny
Jones and The Price Is Right. Jason has been doing double-time at the
bike shop where he works because the boss has been away, which he doesnt
mind too much because itҒs extra cash in his pocketjust so
long he doesnגt have to do that every week. Jason has still been
filming for his 411 interview as well as trying to get some other riding
in around work.
Josh Stricker was doing
laundry at Van HomanՒs house when I called, just hanging with his
friends. Josh went to a jam at some new trails in Pennsylvania called
The Woodbridge Trails this past weekend where he just hung-out with friends.
Josh is stoked that school ends this week.
Nate Hanson started a new
computer CAD class at the beginning of last week that he is completely
stoked on. HeՒs also been taking care of business over at Primo,
working on their new catalog. His truck is getting a suspension upgrade
that he designed and drew-up on the computer, which is coming together
quite nicely according to Nate. Hes also been getting the sessions
in at Vans Orange and trying to get things together so that the Primo
ramps get refurbished.
ҕ Edwin Delarosa got back from the Props Passport
trip and resumed his street missions in NYC. Edwin shot some lifestyle
photos this past weekend for his upcoming Etnies ad to coincide with his
interview coming out in Ride BMX. Edwin will be heading out to California
with his riding buddy Vincent Sammon and Etnies flow-team rider Vic Ayala
this Monday just to hang, ride and do some more photo stuff for Etnies
as well as FIT Bike company.
Garrett Byrnes has been riding at home in Jersey
as well as hanging in Philly with friends. Garrett arrived home from riding
some trails on Wednesday՗only to find the woods across the street
from his house on fire. His house was charred a bit, but not as bad as
a couple of houses down the way from his.
