Lots and lots of etnies BMX Team news

Jun 11 2002 / Tuesday

Taj Mihelich
has been the subject of footage and interviews for a Day In The Life section
in 411 video magazineՒs
upcoming second issue. Taj also heard the tragic news last week that one
of our friends from England, Richard Ball (Boyley), had died in a motorcycle
accidentwhich shook-up all of us. Taj is getting ready to go to
Woodward in the upcoming weeks.
ו After leaving the Etnies La Revolution contest in Binghamton,
New York, Joe Rich went
to Philadelphia to hang with friends and relatives and get in some riding
with Etnies team mates Garrett Byrnes and Ruben
Alcantara. They were hitting-up all that Philly has to offer,
like F.D.R Skatepark, some of the trails, as well as all the secret street-spots.
Joe returns home to Austin on the 5th of June.
Mike Escamilla
just got the cover and interview of the August issue of Ride
BMX magazine! The cover is pure Mike, doing a peg-grind on a playground
swing set. Mike has been home this last week quite a bit because his ankle
is not healing quite as rapidly as he thought it should. This has left
him plenty of time to think up some crazy new stunts on his bike while
honing his skills on the new Spiderman game. Mike is still working on
an Alaska video trip while taking care of his daughter Haley and will
also head off to England this coming week to attend Richard BallՒs
Ruben Alcantara
headed up to Philly after leaving Binghamton with Etnies team mates Joe
Rich and Garrett Byrnes to hang out with them
for the week and ride. Ruben will be leaving for Costa Rica and hanging-out
with Nathan Penonzek this Tuesday after going home to Austin for one day
to collect some of his belongings and do some laundry.
Օ Jason Enns has been working
at a local bike / skate store in Vancouver assembling bikes to subsidize
his pro income. Jason has also been filming for his interview in the upcoming
issue of 411 video magazine which will also feature etnies team mate Taj
Mihelich's Day In The Life segment. Jason has also been camping this last
weekjust trying to get away from the city for a while and somehow
fitting some riding in there somewhere.
ו Josh Stricker is attending
school. This last week he shot photos with TransWorlds Keith Mulligan
for an S&M Bikes ad. Josh said that most of the trails by his house
in Philly are up and running finally, so he has been hitting those while
still riding at the Little Devil warehouse.
ҕ After kind of being conned into finishing up a bunch of the street-course
stuff at Woodward Camp and missing the Forward
video premier in Binghamton last weekend, Nate
Wessel has been working on the downhill BMX track at Woodward, which
is burly as hell according to Nate. Built into the side of a hill, it
has forty-foot jumps and huge turns which make riders reach crazy speeds.
Nate is going to be based out of Woodward all summer.
John Heaton went home for
a few days just to relax before heading out to Wheatfield, New York where
one of Mat HoffmanՒs CFB bike contests happened this past weekend.
John competed and placed 9th.
Nate Hanson is keeping
himself really busy, as always. He enrolled himself in another computer
class, which will definitely consume plenty of his time while still doing
the PR and ad stuff at Primo. This last weekend, Nate worked on a bumper
for one of his 4x4 buddies to make a little extra cash on the side, which
Nate claims is actually snowballing into more and more work. Will this
lead to a new career? He has also been working on a shock-absorber design
with his brother that he is pretty stoked on. Nate has been riding quite
a bit, either hitting the streets around his house or riding at Vans Orange.
Օ After the Binghamton eventwhere he placed 10th in the street
contestחand to check out the Etnies Forward video premier, Sandy
Carson went back to Austin to relax, hang with his lady and get some
riding in.
Garrett Byrnes went back home to Philly after
the Binghamton event and video premier with Etnies team mates Joe Rich
and Ruben Alcantara in tow. They were in town for the week just to session
the foreign terrain with one of the locals as a tour guide, hitting all
that Philly has to offer.
