Apr 4 2002 / Thursday

Malmo, 2nd April 2002
The first Etnies European Open 2002 was a real success. Never before had
there been so many spectators and skateboarders in Malmo. "This is
not a furniture" was David Luthers favourite sentence at the Bryggeriet
skatepark this weekend, when he tried to clear the obstacles from the crowd.
Nevertheless, Jurgen Horrwarth paved his way through, won Street and got
second in Vert.
176 skateboarder competed three days - 142 in Street, 26 in Vert and 7 in
the Girls Jam. They came from all over the world: Germany, Norway, Sweden,
France, Denmark, England, USA, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy,
Czech Republic, Austria and Switzerland.
Stefan Lehnert from Germany got third after the final in Street on Sunday,
second Florentin Marfaing from Germany, too, and as said before Jurgen Horrwarth
reserved the first place.
Terence Bougdour from France saved his third place in Vert, Jurgen Horrwarth
got second and Jussi Korhonen from Finland went home with first place.
Giorgio Zattoni from Italy got hurt in the Vert finals, skated the best
trick contest and won it doing a Varial Mc Twist with a broken wrist!
18 year old Louise Menke from the Netherlands won the Girls Jam that took
place on Sunday. Louise clocked her 45 seconds for tricks like crooked grind,
boardslideflip, ollie over the pyramide, bsKickflip over the hip or Kickflip
fakie. There is no doubt that she is the best female skateboarder in Europe
right now. Catarina Sterner from Sweden got second and Ninnie Perraud from
Norway shared her happiness with third place.
On Monday everybody went to the Alis Open Wonderland to Copenhagen. After
a couple of hours bowl skateboarding, Michael Jensen from Denmark not only
secured first place, he also won the Best Trick Contest with a kickflip
blunt kickflip out. Second was Christian Brox from Norway and third Nicky
Guerrero from Denmark who has been skating for 25 years now.
