Markku holds it down at the Olympics...

Mar 5 2002 / Tuesday

Etnies' own Markku Koski
held it down for us while representing his homeland of Finland in the Olympic
halfpipe event. Markku had an insane qualifying run that included 15foot
straight airs and a frontside 1080 to cab 9.
In the finals, Markku went for gold with back-to-back 1080s at the bottom
of the pipe. He landed clean on his frontside wall, then slammed hard on
the deck after finishing his rotation on the cab 1080 on his backside wall.
Markku attempted the most technical run of all the qualifiers, which definitely
would have landed him a medal, if not for the fall on his last hit. We're
guessing the Japanese judge really wanted him to win because he awarded
Markku a perfect 10 after a fall in the middle of the pipe on his second
run of the finals. Weird.
Markku finished in 8th place overall. Congratulations Markku from the Etnies
posse!
