Rob G Braves Asia

Nov 4 2002 / Monday

• Rob Gonzalez left for a month-long trip to Asia with 411 filmer Anthony Clarvall and Slap magazine, where he will be spending three to four days each in eight different cities. Even though it's kind of dangerous to be an American in some of these foreign countries, Rob decided to go and get some coverage in places you wouldn't normally even think about visiting, such as Vietnam, Bali, Cambodia and many more. Manila was also on the list, but everyone decided to skip out on that one.

• Mike V took part in an autograph session for a shop called Industry out in the city of Palm Springs last Thursday. They also had the street closed off for a demo that Volcom came by to set-up the street obstacles which went on until 8:00 PM.

• Lincoln Ueda is still on the Tony Hawk Boom Boom Huck Jam tour for the next month. We’re talking stadium-capacity crowds at $100 a head. Yikes! Currently on tour with Lincoln and crew is Etnies lifer Sergie Ventura.

• Fabrizio Santos and Carlos De Andrade will be leaving for Brazil next week to visit friends and family and to take part in the Crail World Cup contest in Sao Paulo. The Breeze is unsure if he is going to enter, but you can bet he’ll be there skating the course just to make an appearance. Meanwhile, Carlos will be in town to win the event. They'll both be gone until the end of the month.

• Chris Lambert went to Japan last week for five days. It was his birthday yesterday, so we all hope he had a good one. He’ll be back in town tomorrow.

• Billy Marks scored 1st place at the Volcom Damn Am contest over the weekend! The funny thing about the whole event is that Billy was feeling ill and didn’t even want to skate. He threw up after his first run during the finals, punked it, and still made all of his tricks. Congrats go out to Billy for throwing up and winning the contest! Billy also wrapped-up his am interview with Thrasher recently, so keep your eyes peeled—it’s going to be a gnarly one, trust me!

• Tony Silva is also super-busy trying to film for a new Foundation video. He's at home this week spending some time with his real family and getting ready for the Make a Wish tour with Joe Brook from Slap magazine.

• Ryan Sheckler also entered the Volcom Damn am contest over the weekend. He did well in the beginning, advanced to the next round of elimination and made it all the way to the semi-finals—ending-up with 14th place. Mom was proud, regardless.

• Zered Bassett has a lot of amazing coverage out right now. There's a Zoo York tour article in the new Slap with a bunch of Zered photos, and Zered also has a lot of tricks in the Zoo York travel section of the new Digital video. Instead of going to the Make a Wish Foundation event in Houston, Texas, Zered is entering an East Coast pro / am contest. He is also currently looking for an apartment in New York, cuz he spends so much time there, he may as well live there.

• Josh Harmony is currently on the road with Mike Burnett shooting photos for Thrasher and making his way out to Houston, Texas. They're taking their time—skating, filming and shooting photos at various skate spots along the way. While in Texas, Josh will be skating with fellow teammate, Nate Brossard, and hitting-up the Make A Wish event on November 9th-10th.

• Jesse Fritsch also made an appearance out at the Industry boardshop demo in Palm Springs to sign some autographs. Jesse’s been skating a bunch to help out his new board sponsor, Vallely Skateboards. He’s also been spotted playing music and acting in movies.
