Gearing-Up For The Season

Oct 22 2002 / Tuesday

• Matt Hammer and John Jackson are back in Mammoth getting ready for the season. Right now, their goal is to get into the X-Games, which means they will have to compete in the first Triple Crown scheduled for early December out in Colorado.
• Dionne Delesalle is in Europe attending the Rossignol team photo shoot. He'll be there for a couple of weeks and then head back home to get things going in North America.
• Markku Koski is home for the time being. He'll be competing in a few early season competitions to get his rankings for the ISF (International Snowboard Federation).
• Nicolas Droz is staying busy with organizing his contest. So far, he's got twelve teams scheduled to come out to France and join in the festivities, which will be set-up as a "Teams" contest. Thirteen teams will be battling for the number one spot. It will be run in a super-pipe jam format, with obstacles on top of the half pipe, plus a big-air contest to be held toward the end of the contest.
• Tyler Lepore is getting geared-up for the season. He's dialing in his snowmobile, among other things, to kill it this winter.
• Joni Makinen has been giving his shoulder a workout, so he'll be 100% for the season. He says it's feeling a lot better and will be ready as soon as the season hits. Early in the season, he'll venture around Europe for the early part of the season, and then plans on heading over to the States to start on his film projects.
• Janna Meyen will be supporting the local shop, Side Effect, in Bend, Oregon for their start-of-the-year kick-off party to be held this weekend, Saturday, October 26 from 2:00PM till?
• Chad Otterstrom has been super-stoked that he's been able to ride with friends lately. Colorado has been getting flurries the past couple of weeks, and some of the resorts have reportedly already opened-up with one or two runs. Chad will be heading back East to visit his family for a few days just before he gets back to riding every day. He'll kick-off the season by competing in the Triple Crown, which will be held at his hometown of Breckenridge in early December.
• Roberta Rodger is working hard to align her season with as many events as possible. She'll be entering a few competitions, as well as attending a few snowboarding camps.
• Kevin Sansalone just made the cover of Concrete Powder with an invert wearing his all-terrain Etnies. Congratulations, Sans! Good work!
• Wille Yli-Luoma is in Oregon attending a few meetings with his board sponsor. He'll be in town for the next couple of weeks going over schedules for other photo needs and heading back to Europe to get started with his season.
